Twitter for Android beta builds indicate new features, other changes

Twitter is currently testing the latest beta version of its Android app, which allows users to directly taken some actions from the notification itself.

According to various reports quoting beta testers the latest beta build of Twitter's Android app (build 101 on v5.2) enables users to reply, re-tweet and favourite the tweet directly from the notification pane just by tapping on it. It will further confirm it with a notification when tapped.

The missing features in the latest Twitter beta app for Android suggest that the micro-messaging giant is also looking to eliminate the 'quote-retweet' feature, where users add "RT @name", giving the impression that the re-tweeter posted the original message.

The company is therefore speculated to be encouraging native retweets in the Android beta. Native retweets simply copies the original message without adding that "RT@ name" line and the 'Quote Tweet' action will be moved to the Share menu of the Android beta app.

So far, the reports are about changes to the beta build of the Twitter Android app. The iOS version of the Twitter app may continue with its general release feature set for a while, until the company brings feature symmetry across all platforms of the app.

Previously, Twitter added 'Immersive Mode' for full-screen pictures on devices running Android 4.4 KitKat.

Last month, Twitter was testing a major profile redesign, which would make its desktop version look a lot like Facebook's Timeline and Google+ Profile. The published pictures of the Twitter profile page also appears to emphasize photo sharing.
